Teacher Training for Phonics-Based Literacy

Many schools in Cambodia want to teach English well, but teachers often lack phonics training, clear resources, and ongoing support. Our project aims to change that.

The Project

What We Do

We provide a complete 4-year phonics-based literacy curriculum, practical video training, and monthly support that teachers can use immediately.

Everything is designed with local needs and low-resource classrooms in mind and delivered in partnership with Khmer educators.

IMPACT

How Our Model Works

We've created a simple, sustainable way to improve English phonics-based literacy teaching in Cambodian public schools and NGOs.

  • We test every lesson in real Cambodian classrooms.
  • Our Khmer coordinator and trainers support teachers and schools directly.
  • Our UK team develops the curriculum, videos, and training system.
  • Schools receive the curriculum and all core teaching materials free of charge.

Opportunity

Where The Project Started

Our first pilot began at Ban Nature School, a small community school in rural Siem Reap.

Seeing the children’s progress — and the difference clear phonics made — shaped the full five-year pathway now being offered nationwide.

Expansion

Where The Project Is Going

Over the next five years, we aim to bring structured phonics training to 62 schools, build a Khmer-led training team, and make it easier for teachers across Cambodia to teach English with confidence and clarity.

"As Peter Drucker wisely said, the best way to predict the future is to create it. By investing in teachers, we are creating a brighter, opportunity-filled future for Cambodia’s children and communities."
